I’ll always remember my first spa experience. I was preparing for a holiday and wanted my skin to look its best.

Feeling run down, I needed some time to unwind and a facial appeared to be the perfect way to let go of my stress and worries.

After an hour of having my face cleansed, steamed, toned and massaged with many moisturizing lotions, my skin looked as good as new – and it showed to everyone around me.

‘Your skin looks absolutely flawless,’ I remember a lady complimenting me on my way home from the spa.

I’ll never forget her words, or the way the spa experience made me feel. Cleansed, relaxed, refreshed.

That’s when it dawned on me. A good facial routine renews not only your skin, it also re-energises your spirit.

One of the first signs of a youthful complexion is a smooth and radiant glow. When you lose this as time takes it toll, that’s when you start to look and feel older too.

The accelerated pace of modern living means constant stress; barely taking time for yourself, eating ready meals instead of fresh natural foods, and slathering on chemical laden skin care products instead of using fresh ingredients.

All of these are having an impact on the health and radiance of your skin. If you want to reverse the damage or maintain a youthful glow, then it’s all about learning to take good care of yourself from the inside – so it shows on the outside.

Get your glow on with these following tips…

1. Joyful Exercise

Moving is vital for encouraging oxygen and blood flow to circulate freely around the body.

Exercise can give you a healthy complexion by enabling skin to receive oxygen and vital nutrients.

In comparison, extended periods of inactivity can lead to sluggish circulation and this shows in dull and sallow skin.

The good news is that you don’t have to sweat it out at the gym for hours to see results.

Practicing an exercise you enjoy such as walking, jogging or yoga for 30-40 minutes a day can all give you a natural glow and best of all, they are relatively low impact so won’t cause stress or inflammation in the body.

2. Eat Antioxidant Rich Foods

Blueberries, goji berries and cranberries are all rich sources of antioxidants that can fight free radical damage in the body.

Free radical damage accumulates with age and Vitamins C and E can protect the body against free radicals and oxidation.

Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables every day will ensure you receive a large dose of antioxidant nutrients. This can protect your cellular health and create a natural glow from the inside out.

3. Facial Yoga

Face yoga is based on massage and acupressure techniques that use your fingertips and repeated movements to tighten facial muscles, potentially helping to prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming.

There are specific face yoga exercises that can target various areas such as forehead lines, wrinkles around the eye area, sagging cheeks, nasolabial folds and the chin.

Practiced daily, facial yoga can increase blood circulation, lymph flow and the elimination of toxins.

Face massage increases collagen and skin elastin, leaving you with a healthier and radiant complexion.

4. Drink More Water

Your body is made up of about 60% water and if you want to maintain good skin health it’s important to stay hydrated.

Good cell health is vital for making skin look soft, smooth and moisturized. Hydrated skin can decrease oil concentration in the skin, creating a healthy balance of oil and water, reducing breakouts and blemishes.

Drinking plenty of water may also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by making skin more plump, resilient and elastic. Getting an adequate amount of water can also minimize pores.

When you drink enough water you will improve your skin health and this shows in your facial glow.

5. Take Plenty of Vitamin C

Scientists recognize Vitamin C for its powerful anti-aging properties.  Taking Vitamin C for extended periods of time can produce more than eight times of collagen, according to researchers.

As an essential building block for building skin collagen and elastin, it is known to be a powerful skin ingredient that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Including a Vitamin C tablet or liposomal supplement into your diet is a good idea but choosing to eat plenty of Vitamin C rich foods is the best way to naturally include more of this collagen-boosting nutrient into your skin.

Good sources of Vitamin C include oranges, strawberries, pineapple, mango, kiwis, papaya and Brussels sprouts.

6. Only Use Natural Products

The skin readily absorbs whatever ingredients are added to it. Choose to apply products with natural ingredients only and avoid the use of chemical laden creams and lotions where possible.

Coconut oil, avocado oil, aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, sea salt and essential oils are all natural ingredients with many versatile uses.

These can all recreate store bought versions of traditional cosmetic and toiletry products such as deodorant, cleanser, toner and moisturizer.

Research, experiment and recreate your own natural products. You’ll see for yourself how fun and easy it is to stay healthy and give your skin a radiant glow.

Look At All Aspects Of Your Lifestyle

These six tips are essential to achieving a beautiful and healthy complexion. Living a happy, healthy and stress-free lifestyle is also recommended if you wish to achieve a more youthful look.

Taking action every day towards feeling happy and being positive can help you to deal with stressful life situations and maintain an overall sense of wellbeing.

These days, I don’t often have the time to go to the spa. As a freelance writer I manage my deadlines well but I’ve found the biggest way to maintain my healthy complexion is to follow the above tips.

By choosing to eat healthy foods, drink more water, use only natural skincare products and exercise daily I have noticed that my skin has regained its healthy glow. And long may it continue.
